QMTools refers both to a collection of Java applets and a Java applet editor designed to facilitate the creation of multimedia enhanced, computer based classroom materials for use in teaching introductory quantum physics. Each applet encapsulates a single pedagogical element that can be inserted into an HTML document to provide an interactive, computer-based experience at any point in the presentation. QMTools is intended foremost as an aid to the study of quantum physics up through the intermediate level. As such, it is devoted to systems described by a single space variable (or ones so reducible); it does not treat systems that are inherently two or three-dimensional, nor does it recognize particle spin. Within these limitations, QMTools is a powerful and comprehensive tool for acquiring precious insights into the unfamiliar – often bizarre – quantum world. |
