(12/1) - The optional take home final exam is now posted.  It is due at 2:30 on Monday December 8, 2003.  Don't forget to sign the honor pledge.  Happy Holidays!

(11/18) - Mid-term #2 is scheduled for next Wednesday (11/19).  The review sheet  is now posted.  

(11/18) - Issue memo #8 on genetic engineering is due on Monday (11/24).  We will continue this discussion after Thanksgiving.

(11/18) - No class on Wednesday 11/26 - Thanksgiving Break.

(11/18) - The deadline for handing in late assignments for any credit (you lose points each day an assignment is late) that were due between Mid-term #1 and #2 ( Issues #4, #5, #6, & #7; Watershed simulation; and the ANWR editorial) is Friday November 21, 2001.

(11/10) - Today we will spend the class preparing for the ANWR debate on Wednesday (11/12).  Your editorial is due on Wednesday (11/12) and you can work with one other person on the assignment and you will both get the same grade.  This assignment is worth 10% of your final grade so be sure to put some effort into this assignment.  

(11/10) - Next Monday (11/12) we will discuss global warming.  Issue memo assignment #7 is due the same day.  Remember that your best 5 of 8 grades count towards your final course grade. 

(11/10) - Mid-term #2 is scheduled for next Wednesday (11/19).  The review sheet  is now posted.  We will have a short review in class on Monday (11/12).

(10/22) - Your roles for the watershed simulation are assigned (click here).  You need to come to class on time on Monday (10/27), should sit with your fellow group members, and prepared and ready to go so that we can start on time.  Your written assignments are also due at the beginning of class (directions are at the end of the watershed simulation information.

(10/22) - Next Wednesday (10/29) we will discuss the simulation and then begin discussing energy related issues and discuss nuclear power and other energy sources.  

(10/15) - On Monday (10/20) we will discuss Issue memo assignment #4 on recycling.  On Wednesday (10/22) we will begin preparations for the watershed simulation that will be held on Monday (10/27).  You should read through the assignment, decide on your preference for a role, and bring copies of the maps to Wednesday's class.  The water quality topics page has resources that should be of some assistance in helping you prepare for the simulation.

(10/8) - On Monday (10/13) my Graduate Assistant will show a film that we will discuss on Wednesday (10/15).  On Wednesday (10/15) we will discuss Issue Memo Assignment #5 on the precautionary principle and your memos for this assignment are due.  We will also discuss the role of science in the policy process.  You should also look at these handouts as well as these handouts.

(10/8) - Issue memo assignment #4 on recycling is due on Monday (10/20). We will use this assignment to look at how C/B analysis is used in decision making

(10/2) - On Monday (10/6) we will begin discussing the readings pertaining to the policy process and on Wednesday (10/8) we will discuss the role of federalism in environmental policy.  Be sure you have read the handouts for endangered species for Wednesday's class.

(9/25) - On Monday we will discuss the handouts related to conflicts between preservation and multiple use. Download the handouts by clicking here.  

(9/25) - The review sheet for the exam on Wednesday 10/1 is now posted.  We will have a short review at the beginning of Monday's (9/29) class. 

(9/17) - The written assignment for the common pool resource simulation will now be due on Monday (9/22).  New copies of the reserve readings for the assignment should be available electronically today.  Issue memo #3 on over population will now be due on Wednesday (9/24).  I have not decided on whether the exam will be moved.  I'll decide that in class next week.

(9/10) - The common pool resource (CPR) simulation will be on Monday (9/15).  Be sure to read the directions, show up on time, and to bring a calculator.  Your writing assignment based on the simulation will be due on Wednesday (9/17) and we will discuss the readings related to CPRs

(9/8) - Issue Assignment #2 on environmental justice is due on Wednesday (9/10).  The reading is on reserve in the library.  

(8/27) - Our next class is Wednesday (9/3).  Your first issue memo assignment is due.  We will discuss environmentalism and value differences

(8/20) - The syllabus for this class can be viewed on the website or can be downloaded for printing by clicking here.  You should view the course schedule for dates that readings and assignments are due.  Please check the class web site and your email frequently as the course schedule may change.
