(1) Catullus 2Translate.  This is also in nodisctionaries.com, but the link above also has notes.

(2) Progressive reading for Catullus 2: This is a series of sentences and phrases built on the poem that focus on the kernels of the sentences and building in the poem.  You may also want to look over the progressive reading for Catullus 3, which we will do next time.

(3) We will do a little something from Auricula Meretricula 2.

NOTE: Something went wrong on Thursday and all the web pages I thought I had updated, just disappeared.  So I know that you have only just now gotten this assignment, and I will not be too upset if it's not perfect.  202's, it should be perfect.

Assignment for Tuesday, August 24

(1) Auricula Meretricula I (pp. 14-15).

This book is coordinated with Wheelock chapters 1-8.  You may want to review them.  They cover:

For practice on these things, and on the vocabulary assumed see Study Aids (linked to the right) or the Review Materials page (linked above) that has a more comprehensive overview of review materials and exercises.  I am still working on creating the Review Materials page so the two pages are pretty similar at the moment.

(2)  From a site you will love:  http://www.nodictionaries.com/   Go to Hyginus Fabulae and read the stories of Pandora and Prometheus.  The vocabulary helps mean that we can concentrate on HOW the meaning is expressed in Latin idiom.  NOTE:  In class you will read from clean text; i.e. you have to know them well enough to read them without notes.

(3) (optional) Epitaphs

If you found Auricula Meretricula  & Pandora and Prometheus easy, try this reading some of these epitaphs (htm version so you can cut/paste to nodictionaries).  They are not easy, as they are short and pithy.  Here is a review vocabulary to help with the words you should work on mastering; for the rest, use the Latin Vocabulary Lookup Tool  or No Dictionaries Latin online -- it's a great help.  We will go over these in class; if you have some of them, good, if not , that's OK too.  Put in a good effort but don't fry your brain.  We will go over them and look at how epitaphs are structured, and see some on actual monuments (Power Point).
