(7/17) - The take home final exam is now posted (download by clicking here).  Be sure to sign and attach the honor pledge and be sure to answer all of the questions.  It is due in my mailbox by 12:20 PM on Friday July 25, 2008

(7/17) - On Monday (7/21) and Tuesday (7/22) we will discuss the readings on benefit-cost analysis (download lecture notes & figures).  Also, please read this interesting article on how the value of life has declined for Monday's class (download by clicking here).

(7/17) - On Monday (7/21) the memos and presentations for case #12 and #15 are also due.

(7/17) - All groups should be prepared to present their policy projects on Wednesday (7/23).  Your final written reports are due at the start of class on Thursday (7/24)and if we run out of time on Wednesday, we will continue the presentations on Thursday.  Your peer evaluation forms for your group members are also due on Thursday.

(7/10) - On Monday (7/14) and Tuesday (7/15) we will discuss the readings on identifying alternatives (download the lecture notes, figures, and summary handouts).  On Tuesday (7/15) and Wednesday (7/16) we will discuss the readings on evaluative criteria (download lecture notes and figures).  On Thursday (7/17) we will discuss the readings on evaluating alternatives (download lecture notes and figures).

(7/10) - Check the revised course schedule for when your case memos and presentations are due. Presentations & Memos for Case #10 & #14 are due on Wednesday (7/16).  If you forgot which case you signed up for you can check by clicking here

(7/10) - The preliminary analysis memos for your group policy projects are due on Wednesday (7/16).

(7/3) - Monday (7/7) we will begin discussing the readings on the rationales for government intervention (download lecture notes & figures).

(7/3) - At the start of Wednesday's class (7/9) I'll ask each of your groups to provide a 1 sentence definition of the policy problem that your policy analysis/project will focus on and what the rationales are for government addressing the problem.

(6/26) - Your groups for the policy paper/project have been assigned.  The students who missed class will be assigned on Wednesday (7/2).  You will have the option of forming your own group but I may allow you to join one of the other groups.

(6/25) - On Thursday (6/25) we will continue discussing the readings on the policy process and assign your groups for the policy paper/project

(6/25) - On Monday (6/30), you will have time to begin preparations for your group project (the classroom will be open but I will not be there).  You should also complete the following exercise on the policy process as a group and be prepared to present your findings to the class on Wednesday (7/2).

(6/25) - On Tuesday (7/1) class will meet in the teaching lab in the library (room 1022 on the main floor).  Ameet Doshi will provide an overview of where to find the types of information that can help with your policy projects.

(6/25) - On Wednesday (7/2) we will finish discussing the readings on the policy process and discuss the assigned exercise on the policy process. We will then begin discussing the readings on problem definition

(6/24) - Welcome to the website for the summer version of PLS 304 - Introduction to Public Policy Analysis.  The syllabus is now posted (Download a copy) and the website updated with the readings and assignments for Summer I.  Check the course schedule and this website frequently as it is subject to change.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions about the course or its requirements.

(6/24) - Since this class involves writing a long policy analysis report, I advise you read this recent article in the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management (JPAM) that has a number of useful writing tips (Download).
