UBEDA PART 2
ALFARERIA PACO TITO
May 21
|
Ubeda is known world wide for its pottery. Knowing this, I contacted Paco Tito the most famous potter in Spain to arrange a visit to his new studio -museum. The students had expressed interest in visiting a ceramic shop. Paco Tito turned out to be more than nice, he truly became like a father to all of us. We spent the most unforgettable evening in his workshop and everyone got a chance to make a ceramic piece. What an unforgettable experience. Walking through Tito's museum is an out of this world experience. The beauty of his work is indescribable but his kindness and friendship is what truly makes him an outstanding person. |
In order to preserve the history of utilitarian pottery, Paco Tito established the "Memory of the Everyday" museum above his studio. The ceramics seen below show many objects that were at one time essential for food and drink storage, transportation, and preparation. Amazingly, Paco made all of the pieces himself! The green pieces are the most typical of Ubeda's pottery style. He has also made fantastic sculptures such the one of his father which sits at the entrance of the museum and a collection of small, but beautiful Quijotes.

Paco's son, Pablo, carries on tradition and works with his father and son (little Tito) everyday.

MUSEO AGRICOLA
May 22
Today was a rainy day but we still took a quick trip to the museum which is only 3 blocks away from the school. The museum is a restaurant and it hosts all kinds of tools used for agriculture. After the visit to the museum we went to have coffee at one of Ubeda's many delicious pastry shops, Artesanos de Leña. |

FLAMENCO & SEVILLANS CLASS
May 24
We took a 2 hour Flamenco-Sevillanas class to learn to appreciate this beautiful dance that characterizes Spain and especially the Andalucía region. Flamenco is definitely harder that it seems. We had in our group some very good dancers though, including the guys. Joe and Trevor who showed off at the Flamenco show in the Sacromonte Caves in Granada. |
