GRANADA
May 26
We left to Granada at 8: a.m. We rode a public bus. The ride to Granana was about 4 hours from Ubeda. The weather was rainy so we did not know what to expect. We took taxis from the bus station to the Hotel Luna Arabial in Granada. We decided to stay at the hotel and take a nap until the rain let up. Some of us went to El Corte Inglés which was just across the street and walked through the store. Dinner at the hotel was at 6:30. We all dressed very nice to go to the Flamenco show in the Sacromomete Caves as well as to walk El Albaicín, the moore neighborhood. |

The plaque "Carmen" on a house means that the house is old enough and have the appropriate look to be a typical home of the albaícin. |

We went to explore Granada's
downtown on Saturday. We visited the Capilla Real where lies
the tomb of the Catholic Kings, Isabel and Ferdinand. We also
toured the Cathedral. The Cathedral is so large and the
ceilings are so high that one truly feels lost in it. Right outside
the Cathedral the students had a lot of fun avoiding the
gypsies trying to hand out rosemary leaves as well as making
themselves pass as Gypsies. Traditionally
gypsy ladies try to hand you a rosemary leave. They make it look
like it is free and
then they ask for money and may even curse you if you don't give
them any.
