bullet(6/21) - Final Grades are now posted.  Enjoy the rest of the summer!
bullet(6/15) - The review sheet for the final exam is now posted.  The exam will be on Monday (6/20) during class time and will consist of 10 short answer questions and 3 essay questions.  Be sure to bring a blue book.  You will have the entire class period if you need it to complete the exam.  Make an appointment by email if you want to meet with me on 6/16 to discuss the exam.  I should be in around 1:30 on Monday (6/20) as well if you want to stop by my office. 
bullet(6/9) - Your case memo is due via email at the start of class on time on Tuesday (6/7).  I'll be available by appointment the rest of the week to discuss your project during class time.  You can also revise up to two memos and I will average the grades (but your grade on the revised memo will not go down).  The revised memo and the original are due in class on Wednesday (6/15). 
bullet(6/6) - Your case memo is due via email at the start of class on time on Tuesday (6/7).  I'll be available by appointment the rest of the week to discuss your project during class time.  You can also revise up to two memos and I will average the grades (but your grade on the revised memo will not go down).  The revised memo and the original are due in my mailbox by the end of the scheduled class time on Monday (6/13). 
bullet(6/2) - On Monday (6/6) we will discuss the MOVE case and review the topics we have discussed.  Your case memo is due via email at the start of class on time on Tuesday (6/7).  I'll be available by appointment the rest of the week to discuss your project during class time. 
bullet(5/27) - There is no class on Monday (5/30) in honor of Memorial Day.  On Tuesday (5/31) we will discuss the readings on Motivation.  If you need help getting motivated, try viewing this slide presentation (or this one).  Your second case memos on Waco are also due.  On Wednesday (6/1) we will discuss the readings on leadership and discuss the third case on the good/bad administrator but your memo will be due on Thursday (6/2). 
bullet(5/24) - On Wednesday (5/25) we will discuss the readings on organizational design and culture.  Your case memo #1 on the challenger disaster is also due.  On Thursday (5/26) we will discuss the readings on communication and conflict and discuss case #2 on Waco
bullet(5/19) - On Monday (5/23) we will discuss the readings that focus on the political environment of public administration and some of the issues related to ethics and accountability.  On Tuesday (5/24) we will discuss the readings on decision making and Case # 1 on the Challenger Disaster (the memo is due on 5/25).
bullet(5/18) - Welcome to the Summer '11 version of PLS 308 - Public AdministrationGiven the small class size, this course is structured as a hybrid that combines traditional class lectures and discussions with online content and individual assignments and a small project that provide an opportunity to provide feedback.  When the class is not meeting as a group, I am available during the scheduled class time by appointment to discuss the readings and to provide help with your assignments.  I will also periodically post reminders and announcements so you should check this website frequently but be sure you are on the summer '11 version of the courseI will also send materials via email so be sure to check your UNCW email daily.
bullet(5/18) -  The syllabus can be viewed on the website or can be downloaded by clicking here.  You should view the course schedule for dates that readings and assignments are due.  Please check the class web site and your email frequently as the course schedule may change.
bullet(5/18) - Since this class involves writing a long report, I advise you read this recent article in the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management (JPAM) that has a number of useful writing tips (Download). This website also provides useful style guidelines  (Click here).
