Graded Homework due. The reading is the discussion of three philosophers. Lucretius upholds the validity of his atomic theory, while the other two support other ancinet ideas: the first, that all matter derives from fire, and the second, that all matter derives from air.
Progressive Reading version of the reading on p. 106-107.
Do the practica through the end of Chapter Four, and be ready to go through the progressive reading, which we will do first.
Tuesday, Nov. 18
Quiz on Chapter 4 part 2 and 3 vocabulary, plus a gender/number/case exercise which will include 3rd declension nouns and new uses of the dative and ablative cases.
Do the practica through p. 102.
We'll do the Progressive Reading version of the reading on p. 106-107; if you like you can prepare it in advance. This reading uses the relative pronoun material on pp. 103-4, so it will make more sense if you look over it now. We will go over this in class before we do the reading, though.

Read the first two paragraphs of the reading on p. 73-4.

Learn the genitive endings on p. 68, and look over the material on pp. 70-73
Study the vocabulary on p. 67.
Graded Homework Due: Chose five verbs, one each from first, second, third, third-io and fourth conjugations, and for each verb fill our a chart like this one:

We have 2 more class days before the midterm, in which we will cover through p.65. Go ahead and read the section on pronouns (pp. 58-60), which is parallel to the adjective work we've just finished -- this will make the Oct. 7 class easier!

Begin reading chapter 3 and study the vocabulary on page 50-51. Read over the explanation of adjective dictionary form on p. 51 as well.
Thursday, Sept. 25
Quiz on chapter 2 vocabulary, changing singluars to plurals, and plural forms; be able to form plurals of both nouns and verbs and fill out noun paradigms which have plural forms.
Finish the practica in chapter 2, excpet for the one on categorizing verb meanings (p.43-4)

Study the section 2 vocabulary, and review the section 1 vocabulary, noting what declension the verbs are.

Quiz on material through p. 15. Know your vocabulary (from the word lists; you won;t have to know full dictionary form till next quiz), and be able to give forms of any 1st or 2nd declension word and use these with prepositions.
Do the exercises through the end of the chapter.
We will start on chapter 2 next time so if you want to be on top of things, look over the first part of that chapter.

Look over the textbook through the end of chapter 1, though you don't need to do the rest of the exercises yet.
