Teaching 

 Because of my current role as Associate Dean of the Graduate School, I am not teaching any classes.  However, i do still supervise laboratory work for thesis, dissertation, and directed independent study work.  

Some of the classes I've taught in the past: 

PSY 105 - General Psychology. Principles of psychology with emphasis on scientific methods used in studying human behavior.

 PSY 210 - Science and Pseudoscience. Examination of bases for scientific and pseudoscientific claims to knowledge. Considers criteria for description and explanation in science; uses these criteria to differentiate between areas that are scientific and those whose claims to be scientific are questionable. Evaluates areas such as parapsychology and astrology. Emphasizes use of critical thinking skills. 

PSY 217 - Learning and Behavior Change. Basic principles of conditioning, learning, and behavior change. Topics will include and introduction to classical and operant conditioning and the applications experimentally discovered principles to psychological interventions, as well as other fields such as education, business, and health.      

PSY 245 - Drugs and Behavior.  Psychological aspects of drug use and abuse. Emphasis on the effects of major psychoactive drugs (including alcohol) on behavior, the psychological determinants of drug use, and treatment of drug abuse.

Psy 317 - Applied Behavior Analysis.   Extension of the principles of learning and behavior analysis to socially significant human issues, including the assessment and treatment of behavior problems, skill acquisition, verbal behavior, and ethical considerations. Areas of application include education, developmental and intellectual disabilities, geriatrics, and caregiver training.

Psy 355 - Introduction to Experimental Psychology.  Basic principles of psychological research design and evaluation, including techniques of data collection and analysis, and conduct, interpretation, and reporting of various types of psychological research. Experimental research is emphasized.

Psy 417 - Advance Learning and Behavior Analysis.  Advanced study of the empirical and conceptual principles of learning and behavior analysis, and of the applications of these principles. Students will help design and implement laboratory experiments, will collect and analyze data, and will communicate findings via oral presentations and laboratory reports.

PSY 517 - Learning and Behavior Analysis. Advanced topics in animal and human learning and the analysis of behavior, including theories, research methods, and experimental findings

PSY 522 - Advanced Topics in Behavior Analysis. Methodological, empirical, and applied topics in behavior analysis. Emphasis is on the primary literature in methodological, experimental, and applied aspects of behavior analysis and on the acquisition and influence of students’ presentation and discussion skills. 

PSY 530 - Teaching of Psychology I. Introduction to the problems and practices in the teaching of psychology at the college level. In addition to seminar meetings, students work with faculty as teaching assistants in appropriate courses.   

PSY 531 -  Teaching of Psychology II.   Further exploration of teaching of psychology at the college level. In addition to seminar meetings, students work with faculty as teaching assistants in appropriate courses.

 

Psychology Department

Psychology is a basic and applied science, health profession, and undergraduate liberal arts major. The UNCW Psychology Department supports outstanding Undergraduate, Master of Science (M.S.), and Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs.

Psychology Ph.D. 

Our Ph.D. Program offers concentrations in General Clinical Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis and Psychological Science .  I will consider taking students in any of these programs.  

Psychology M.S.

Our Masters program has concentrations in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychological Science, and Neuroscience and Behavior.  I take students in the masters of applied behavior analysis or psychological sciences concentrations.
