Course Goals
|
Students are expected to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of integrating technology into the classroom in an effort to develop lessons that impact the learners’ cognition and academic achievement, as well as a way to increase productivity and professionalism.
This course intends to provide experiences for students so that they may successfully accomplish all of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers, NETS-T, standards. Upon successful completion of this course, students will have evidences showing their competency in all of these standards. This course will provide a foundation of technology use to be built upon in future classes and the internship/practicum semesters. It is the student's responsibility to complete, record, save, and monitor their learning of these standards. The student will be expected to compile and/or demonstrate their competencies of all of these standards upon completion of student teaching internship. |

Conceptual Framework of WSE |
The Watson School of Education develops highly competent and effective professionals to serve in educational leadership roles. All educators must use data for decisions, reflect upon their practice, exemplify their commitment to professional standards, implement appropriate communication strategies, and strive to meet the needs of all learners. Assignments in this course will assist you in preparing you to be a competent professional and a leader. Refer to the Visual Schematic of the conceptual framework. |

Course
Policies |
You will be expected to participate in class discussion, discussion forums and also work on hands on projects. You must complete all reading assignments on time before you come to class for dissucion and post to the discussion forum, and the projects must be submitted through the digital dropbox or as in the ways required by the instructor.
Assignments must be completed and submitted on time. All assignments are due by class time on the due date. Assignments submitted after the due date will result in a lower grade per instructor's discretion. Assignments will not be accepted more than one week beyond the due date, except for instructor's discretion. |

Attendance/Class Participation |
1. Attendance is required. Your active participation in this class is crucial to its success. Because of its interactive, group nature, I depend on you to build and shape the course. Participation involves a combination of attendance, appropriate discussion, completion of assignments and active listening.
- Any absences should be discussed with the instructor. Please call and leave a message or email me within 24 hours if you are unable to make it to class for any reason.
- More than three absences will result in a conference to evaluate your status in the course and may result in a lowering of your final course grade per instructor’s discretion. Extreme emergencies and/or documented absences will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
2. Out of respect for all of our busy schedules, we will begin class promptly. Please arrive on campus in time to park and get to our classroom before class begins. Late arrivals or departures may be considered absences.
Cell Phones: Please be sure that cellular telephones and other electronic devices are on silent modes/vibrate or mute mode during the class. |

Technology/Web Access |
This course is designed to include face-to face onsite class meetings and online discussions. You are required to take part in both formats of this instruction. The class web page will be your link to activities and handouts. You are expected to check the web page on a regular basis for updated information.
The on-line format of the course will use the system, Blackboard, which you have access to through UNCW Sea Port or directly by using this URL address: http://ncvista.blackboard.com/ . The on-line learning activities and assignments will be available using on and off campus computer with Internet access. If you choose to use off- campus computer you are responsible for having for an internet service provider (ISP) that offers a stable and non-interrupted connection into our course website.
