Purpose of Course:

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to advanced German vocabulary, phrases and grammar. The course places emphasis on the perfection of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. The goal is for students to gain language proficiency in the sphere of daily life, and a knowledge of German culture, customs and history.
 

Course Requirements:

1. Regular class and language lab attendance, preparation and participation
2. Completed homework
3. Vocabulary list
4. Four Chapter Tests
5. Final Exam

Course Policies and Guidelines:

1. Grading: Four chapter tests 100 pts. each, homework and vocabulary quizzes 100 
pts, Class Grade 300 (includes Attendance, and Participation), Final Exam 200 pts
(= Chapter Tests 40%, Final Exam 20%, Class Grade 30%, Homework 10%)
2. Tests and quizzes: Absolutely no makeup tests or quizzes will be given. I will drop 
the lowest test and quiz grade at the end of the semester, so if you miss a test, the "F" 
will be dropped.
3. Attendance Policy: You are allowed 3 absences during the semester, whatever the 
reason. Additional absences will have a negative effect on your grade.
4. Homework: Homework is graded on completion, not number of mistakes. Homework 
is individual work and subject to the UNCW code of academic honesty.
 

Grading scale:

93-100 A; 90-92 A-; 
87-89 B+; 83-86 B; 80-82 B-;
77-79 C+; 73-76 C, 70-72 C-;
67-69 D+; 63-66 D; 60-62 D-;
0-59 F
