Guideline 5: Use Graphics Software and Existing Graphics Effectively

  • Be careful with programs and their default settings.

  • Be careful using existing graphics created by you or your co-workers.  A graphic originally produced for a communication may not be appropriate for another communication.

Guideline 6: Integrate Your Graphics With Your Text

  • Introduce graphics with your text

  • Place your graphics near your references to them

  • State the conclusions you want your readers to draw

  • When appropriate, include explanations in your figures
