W elcome to findagreatchurch.org, a website dedicated to celebrating and sharing God's work in local congregations. We hope this site will be a useful resource for churches, to share ideas and stories, learn from some of America's most innovative churches, and be inspired by the ways God is working on congregations across the country.

     This site is the product of the Parish/Congregation Study, based at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and funded by the Lilly Endowment, which spent two years researching excellence in Protestant congregations and Catholic parishes. The results have been published in two books by religion writer and UNC-Wilmington professor Paul Wilkes, also the project director.

Summit Spiritual Masters Series - A series of talks in Wilmington, NC, on five inspiring historical figures.

Summit Voices of Wilmington - Commentaries by local people broadcast over WHQR, Wilmington's NPR affiliate.

     The Pastoral Summit, a conference held May 29-June 1, 2001 in New Orleans, was an outgrowth of the study that featured many of the outstanding pastors and lay leaders profiled in Wilkes' books. There, Protestants and Catholics gathered to worship together, learn about each other's traditions, and exchange ideas and experiences from their churches. This website is a tool to further the sharing of Summit experiences, and we invite you to use this site to add your thoughts and stories as well.
