Software Architectures

Software architecture is concerned with the identification, representation, and development of software subsystems and their interrelationships and constraints. This ongoing research project seeks to broaden our understanding of software architectures and develop architectures and supporting applications to strengthen software development techniques and to enhance the teaching of software architecture. Specifically, the research is intended to:

1.     Develop and analyze different architectural representations (i.e., architectural styles) for a given candidate system, so that the properties, benefits and weakness of different architectural styles may be identified..

2.     Develop and compare alternative subsystem designs for a given architectural style.

3.     Define and evaluate architectural and quality metrics for different systems.

                                                                             a.            Provide several implementations, each representing a different design of an application, and

                                                                             b.            Analyze the different implementations to identify quality properties and constraints associated with that implementation.
