Career Development & Portfolio |
An important focus of the Capstone
experience is on career and professional development. Accordingly,
students will be required to participate in several in class exercises
including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Instrument and a Career
Anchors Inventory. This is also professional program and
the most important measure of your success in the program may be getting
a job that allows you to continue developing your professional skills
and helps advance your career goals. Since most students will be entering the job market while completing the
class, you will be required to complete the following materials: |
|
| Develop a professional resume
for a desired position; and, |
| Develop a portfolio that
contains examples of work products that demonstrate your
professional skills, abilities, and competencies |
|
|
Several of the
required journal entries are also
designed to help with career planning (see that web page for more
details). For example, you will be required to:
|
|
| Assess your strengths and
weaknesses as a professional (required journal entry #1) |
| Interview a potential career
role model or mentor (required journal entry #2) |
| Develop a career strategy
(required journal entry #3); |
|
|
Finally, you will also be required
to apply for a job that advances your career strategy (required journal
entry #6). We will use these short reflective assignments as the
basis for discussing a variety of issues related to career and
professional development. |
