This is a group project. You are expected to work in
groups of two. Let me know who is in your group by April 14th. There
will be two parts to the project. The first part is to numerically solve
the linear advection equation using several schemes. This will be due
April 19th. The second part of the project will be a numerical study of
the KdV equation. The report will be due April 28th.
The goal of this project is to use MATLAB to
investigate numerical solutions of given partial differential equations,
analyze truncation errors of given finite difference schemes, and to
derive stability conditions. Specific instructions are given in the
document NumPDEHW.pdf. (When it is
ready)
All work should be typed with double-spacing and 12 pt
font. You can use LaTeX to write your reports. You will be expected to use correct English grammar and
punctuation. This is a report and thus you will use proper sentence and
paragraph formatting. You will be graded on the evidence of work,
mathematical detail and understanding, proper exposition and neatness.
Your work should also be supported with properly labeled and embedded
plots and equations. Any references used should be cited as well. These
reports will count towards the project component of your grade.
