Session Details:
A discussion of desktop deployment strategies ranging from manual installation to zero touch deployment. We will observe how the University of North Carolina Wilmington implemented the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) as a replacement tool to maintaining 300+ ghost images. MDT is a lite-touch Windows Deployment tool that provides the framework to build and maintain a single image that can be used to replace the 300+ images that used to have to be maintained to support the univeristy. UNCW is now in the process of implementing Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) in order to provide zero-touch desktop deployment. Using these tools not only decreases the amount of time required to maintain and deploy desktop images, it also provides a smaller storage footprint. The goal of this session is to learn new strategies toward providing more efficient desktop provisioning.
