NEWS!
I will be speaking at UNC Cause 2011 on November 2, 2011. My topic will be "Desktop Deployment, No longer a "Ghostly" task " for more information please visit https://cause11.appstate.edu/.
Session Details:
A discussion of desktop deployment strategies ranging from manual installation to zero touch deployment. We will observe how the University of North Carolina Wilmington implemented the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) as a replacement tool to maintaining 300+ ghost images. MDT is a lite-touch Windows Deployment tool that provides the framework to build and maintain a single image that can be used to replace the 300+ images that used to have to be maintained to support the univeristy. UNCW is now in the process of implementing Microsoft's System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) in order to provide zero-touch desktop deployment. Using these tools not only decreases the amount of time required to maintain and deploy desktop images, it also provides a smaller storage footprint. The goal of this session is to learn new strategies toward providing more efficient desktop provisioning.
I have posted my session documents HERE. Please feel free to use them to assist your desktop deployment efforts.
INTRODUCTION
I came to UNCW in the fall of 2008 as a member of the Information Technology Systems Division working in the Client Technology Services (CTS) department. In addition to my desktop support duties, I have been tasked as the Systems Administrator for my department. I maintain our Lite-Touch and Zero-Touch deployment servers, in addition to our software repository server and our legacy Ghost server. Most recently I have been tasked as the project manager for our System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) server build out. I have been responsible for the creation of required task sequences to support the varied lab environments, and the assembly of software distribution packages to support these labs. I have worked closely with our software deployment team to train and assist them in creating software packages that meet SCCM's requirements to be installed with no user interaction.
