For each of the readings, ask (and be ready to discuss!) the following questions:

How, specifically, is the nation described?  What clues are there in the text about its citizens?

What virtues are praised?  What makes a good Irishman/German/Italian etc.?

How is history used by the authors of these pieces of evidence to rally support for their nations?
