The
BEACH Lab is currently conducting research on the effects of alcohol
and caffeine on various social and cognitive judgments. These
projects have been funded the
National
Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
We also had a project that was funded by the
National
Cancer Institute on Racial
Disparities in Cancer Treatment.
Participation in the lab involves the attendance of mandatory one-hour
weekly lab meetings and a commitment of eight lab hours per week.
Students have the opportunity to work with graduate students or directly with Drs. Noel and Jackson on
projects involving the study of alcohol, caffeine and various health
behaviors and treatment access. Prior to enrollment in PSY491 (3 credits), students
must complete the free web course
Online training
on the ethics of working with human research participants
(http://www.uncw.edu/orssp/conduct-human-training.html)
(Register for the Social and Behavioral Research training).
Credit for
lab
participation may be obtained via directed independent study or
seminar credit hours. Lab participation is an excellent
opportunity to gain a hands-on understanding of experimental methods
and design. Interested students may contact any
current graduate
assistants for more information.
