Kendria
graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2004, with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. As an undergraduate she
began her research career in the Ronald E.
McNair Scholars program, conducting research about suicide commitment (involuntary hospitalization). She has presented her research at local
symposia as well as national conferences (Ronald E. McNair 12th
Annual National Research Conference and The Mississippi Academy of
Sciences 78th Annual Meeting).
She is currently
working towards her Master's Degree in Psychology at UNCW. Although
her graduate career has just begun, she has been awarded a
research assistantship in the Department of Psychology, of which she
will be working under the supervision of Dr. Nora Noel, in the
Behavioral Examination of Alcohol, Caffeine and Health (B.E.A.C.H.)
Lab
Kendria’s counseling experience started in 2002, of which she
volunteered as a mentor with DREAM (Drug free Resources
for Education and Alternatives in Mississippi) of
Hattiesburg, in Hattiesburg, MS. She mentored low-income, under
privileged teens and supervised interactive discussions about being
and remaining drug free.
After her graduation
(anticipated May 2006), Kendria plans to pursue her doctoral degree in
Clinical or Counseling Psychology, specializing in substance abuse and
chemical dependency.
