September meeting: The September meeting will include a presentation on French Impressionism

(Alice Rutter); Papier Mâché (Rachel Hatfield) and Guatemalan Worry Dolls (Julie Bordo). 

Refreshments committee: Gladys Wade (chair), Maite Woodhouse, Agnes Ille and Josephine Brent

 

Future meetings: The planning committee has lots of good ideas for this year. November will feature International Communication via the Internet (John Stevens) and the ever-popular Teacher SWAP of Ideas and Activities. Be planning an idea, activity, or resource that you can bring to share with your colleagues. In January, Susan Crampton will present “French Literature and Art in the 19th Century” and Norma Garcia will speak on “Inside Honduras”. The March meeting will include Cecilia Escalante’s presentation on “Tico Land” (Costa Rica).

 

Announcements

FLANC will be held October 24-26, 2002, at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Winston-Salem, NC. Information on programs and registration can be found at www.flanc.org. Julie Bordo continues to serve as the Regional Representative/Coastal. She has written an update on UNCW and CFFLC published in the Spring 2002 Catalyst. We hope everyone has had a chance to read it.

UNCW International Programs:

·        Intercultural Week will be February 10-15, 2003. A Global Summit on the theme of “Superpower and Responsibility” is planned for Feb. 11, featuring four distinguished international speakers.

·        Almost 180 UNCW students went abroad this summer, to Spain, Ecuador, France and Mexico

·        UNCW has a new exchange agreement with PUC, the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro

 

Peruvian missionary Alex Busuttil will speak on “Creating a Healthier World Through Mission and Education” at 7 pm Sept. 11 in the Warwick Ballroom at UNCW.
