January 24

March 27

November meeting: Many thanks to the three presenters at the November meeting: Chuck Sterling (CFCC) who gave a presentation on "Careers with International Organizations from a World Bank Perspective"; Julie Bordo (Forest Hills Elementary) who brought her experiences to bear as she discussed "Latinos in North Carolina"; and Irene Lucas (Laney HS) who gave a hands-on demonstration for making miniature piñatas.  All three presentations were great and each provided information and/or activities that all of us can use either in school or in the greater community.

Congratulations to UNCW scholarship winners Sarah Short and Taya Owens!  Both were present at the November meeting and received their scholarship checks.  They are senior Spanish majors serving their teaching internships at John T. Hoggard High School this semester.  We wish Taya and Sarah every success in their endeavors!

January meeting (coming up):  Programs will be given by John Stevens ("Adapting Film Resources for Use in the Spanish Language Classroom"), Kim Eadie and Lizzy Pressley ("Using Authentic Media in the FL Classroom").

Scholarships: Applications for the high school scholarship will be distributed at the January meeting.  Committee members are: Lizzy Pressley,  Agnes Ille, and Regina Feliz.

Refreshment Committee for January:  Agnes Ille (juice, coffee, tea); Kim Eadie, Julie Bordo.  Anyone else who wishes to contribute, please email or call Joann Mount (mountj@uncw.edu ; tel. 962-3349).
