In this assignment, you will work
with two poems.
I. Translate the first one (“Poema sin título”) into English in
three different ways.
(a) First, do a prose summary in English
describing the theme and setting of the poem.
(b) Second,
write a fairly “tight” poem in English which has the same register and tone of
the original.
(c) Third,
write a fairly “loose” version of the poem in English in a casual and slangy
register.

Sobre
la mesa del suicida,
un
libro de versos,
una fotografía hecha pedazos,
un
gran aire de ausencia,
un
frasco abierto
y dos
cartas que juegan con la brisa.
La
ventana está abierta.
En el
jardín
suspira
una rosa
y
vuelan locamente las palomas.
II. Now translate
