Chapter Overview

Communications and networks are the fastest growing areas of computer technology and digital media. In this chapter, you will learn about the World Wide Web, including browsers, e-mail, search tools, and other services such as chat rooms, instant messaging, and podcasts.

Finally, the chapter describes the educational implications of the Internet and World Wide Web.

  • Internet Resource Assignment

1. Use the World Wide Web (WWW) to locate teacher resources in your area of expertise.

2. Describe these resources in a new MS Word document titled "Internet Resources" and save to your disk in the folder titled "Unit Two".

3. Get at least 15 total resources from the following three areas of expertise:

  • 5 general education websites that you may use in the future (i.e., to find lesson plans, to find example philosophies of education, etc.).
  • 5 grade-level specific education websites that speak to the type of students you will be teaching in the future (secondary, middle, elementary, early childhood).
  • 5 domain specific curricular websites that speak to your overall concentration area (Science, Math, Special Needs, PE).

4. Briefly describe why each site could be helpful to your teaching.

  • Use at least three to five sentences to explain the value of each site selected

5. Open TaskStream and share the Assignment with Dr. Kubasko as the reviewer.
