Phone number

Each numbers in a phone numbers are spoken as an individual one-digit number.  For example, 9132 is spoken as “きゅう9、　いち1、　さん3、　に2” (not きゅうじゅういち 91 ninety one、さんじゅうに 32 thirty two).   The hyphen between the numbers are pronounced by “の (a particle that connects nouns)” to connect the numbers.  For example, 910-1234 is spoken as “きゅう　いち　ぜろ　の　 いち　に　さん　よん(or し)” 

Sample Conversation 1

A:すみません。やまださんの　でんわばんこうは？
B: えーと。243-8567です。
A: 243の　なんですか。
B: 8967です。
A: 243-8967ですね。ありがとうございました。
B: いいえ。

A: Ecxuse me.  What is the Yamada-san’s phone number?
B:  243 –what?
A: 8937.
B: 243-8967,right?  Thank you.
A: No problem.

Sample Conversation 2 

A:すみません。やまなかさんの　でんわばんこうは？
B: えーと。243-8567です。
A:  243の　8569ですか。
B: いいえ、8567です。
A: 243-8567ですね。ありがとうございました。
B:  いいえ。

A: Sorry to bother you.  What is Yamanaka san’s phone number?
B: 243-8567
A: 243 and 8569?
B: No.  8567.
A: 243-8567, right?  Thank you.
B: No problem.
