It is important that
you come to all classes. If you are having problems, feel free to stop
by my office and talk to me. I would not like to see you do poorly
because you are not coming to class. Things will get a little tougher as
the semester progresses, so you need to start off on a good foot and
keep up with the work. Attendance is crucial to your success!
Welcome to MAT 111! I
hope you are eager to get started because we will
hit the ground running. If you would like to know more about the course,
or your instructor, feel free to check out the course web site
http://people.uncw.edu/hermanr/mat111
The first homework assignment will be to email me at hermanr@uncw.edu .
Let me know what you think of the class, what you prefer me to call you,
your concerns, etc. Feel free to email any time. I will try to get back
to you in a reasonable time. My virtual door is always open.
You will need a graphing calculator (TI-83) in this class. If you
practice using it while doing your homework, there will be no surprises
when you have to use it on an exam.
If you are anxious, get a copy of the book and start reading the first
chapter. If you are really ambitious, you can start working on
problems. I have information up at the course website. You can find all
of the information you need there. A copy of this email and other useful
information is posted at the notices page of the website.
I hope you had a restful summer and are ready for a new year at UNCW. I
will see you bright and early on Wednesday, August 18th at 8:00 AM!
