FAMILY NURSING
SEMESTER PROJECT GUIDELINES

  1. The project will focus on your choice of family nursing issues.

  2. The project topic must be approved by the instructor.

  3. You may work individually or in groups of no more than THREE members. If you work in a group, all group members will receive the same project grade.

  4. A printed (word processor) summary or report of the project must be completed and submitted to the instructor by MONDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1997. Projects submitted late will receive less than full credit.

  5. The guidelines listed below address issues that are likely to pertain for many family situations. Consult the instructor for guidance if these guidelines do not address the project you choose.

    1. A description of your asssessment and identification of the family problem (or nursing diagnosis). Summarize the data you collected and how you determined the problem existed. Also indicate how you happened to choose that particular problem given most families have multiple problems that exist simultaneously. [2 points].

    2. A description of your plan for nursing intervention. The description should include strategies you considered, the strategies you decided to use, and your rationale for that decision. What conceptual frameworks or theories did you use? What influenced you to use (or not to use) frameworks or theories? What were your family care objectives? What difficulties did you anticipate for carrying out your plan? [3 points].

    3. A description of how you actually mobilized your plan. What did you actually DO? [3 points].

    4. A description of the family's reaction to what you did (your intervention). How did the family react to what you did? What were the reasons for the family response to what you did? To what degree did the family achieve what you and the family intended for them to achieve? How did what the family got from what you did compare to what you and the family intended for the family to get? [5 points].

    5. Your response to the project. What is your opinion of the project you did? What did YOU learn? What would you do differently if you could repeat the project? What is your opinion regarding being required to do this project? [6 points].

    6. Appropriately cited references using American Psychological Association format. [1 point].

  6. Students will present project summaries or reports in class on either December 1, 1997 or on December 8, 1997. Students will select presentation dates on a first-come, first-served basis. The class presentation will be worth 5 points of the overall overall possible 25 points for the project. The 5 points for presentation will be distributed as follows:

    1. Logic and internal consistency of the report. [2 points].

    2. Evaluation of student learning from the project (including the requirement for presenting it). [2 points].

    3. Presentation skills. Make the presentation interesting for the audience. [1 points].
