About

Dewey N. “Chris” Furr has been an instructor in the Watson College of Education since 2004 and has taught EDN 200, EDN 200L, EDN 301, SEC 200, and SEC 220.  Mr. Furr was a teacher and administrator in the New Hanover County Schools for thirty-four years before retiring in 2011.  He served as a middle school and high school assistant principal and principal as well as a human resources administrator.  He has worked as an educational consultant, teaching seminars on School Culture/Climate and School Leadership for assistant principals and assisting in charter school and grant applications.  He is a past board member of the North Carolina High School Network, a member of the UNCW Dropout Prevention Coalition, and a local school volunteer.  His particular interests include academic success for all students, building positive school culture/climate, and schools with high poverty/high risk populations.
