Resources
For ALL HERO(IN)ES, you can
go to THEOI. COM and search your hero(in)e's
name. The primary sources will be the art in the "Gallery," and the
Classical E-Texts. Cite them by the author and work, with the reference to
Theoi in your works cited section. For individual resources, see below.
Some have a lot more than others. FOR HEROES not given a specific link below,
you can also go to the Greek Mythology Link (see Internet Resources) and look
for your character in the encyclopedia. I will add some more material
Tuesday.
Achilles
Carlos Parada's Greek Mythology Link has a narrative interspersed with quotes from primary sources, along with references you can follow up if you want to.
The best source is the Iliad, focusing on books 1 and 9, but elsewhere as well.
Aeneas
Greek Mythology Link with a narrative and interspersed quoteations from primary sources. At the very bottom is a list of sources for further reading.
The best source is the Aeneid; a summary could get you to significant elements you might want to consider.
Agamemnon
Greek Mythology Link with a narrative and interspersed quoteations from primary sources. At the very bottom is a list of sources. This one is spottier than some although there is a good section on his death. You may need to follow up the primary sources.
Best literary sources: Iliad book 1 or use an index for incidents in battle etc. where he appears, and Aeschylus' Agamemnon.
Ajax
Greek Mythology Link with a narrative and interspersed quoteations from primary sources. At the very bottom is a list of sources.
Major primary sources: The Iliad (showing him as a warrior), Sophocles' Ajax (about his madness and suicide)
Clytemnestra
Greek Mythology Link with a narrative and interspersed quoteations from primary sources. At the very bottom is a list of sources.
Major primary sources: Aeschylus' Agamemnon and Libation Bearers; also various plays by Euripides such as Iphigeneia at Aulis and Electra (where she is very different from the standard portrayal)
Hector
Greek Mythology Link with a narrative and interspersed quoteations from primary sources. At the very bottom is a list of sources.
Major primary source: The Iliad.
Helen
Greek Mythology Link with a narrative and interspersed quoteations from primary sources. At the very bottom is a list of sources.
Main Primary sources: Iliad, Odyssey (where she appears happily back home with Menelaus), Euripides' Helen (in which she never went to Troy -- only an image of her did)

Greek Mythology Link with a narrative and interspersed quoteations from primary sources. At the very bottom is a list of sources.
