About this Web Page
![]()
This web page was created by the students of Dr. Andrea Deagon's Classics 345: Topics in Mythology class at UNC-Wilmington, Fall 2000. Individual students wrote different sections of the page. Some students worked together on their projects, and the whole page was a cooperative effort, with students helping each other out with resources and ideas in class discussion. Most had had very little previous exposure to Classical mythology or ancient art and literature. The Perseus Project was key in enabling us to work with primary sources and a large body of images from ancient art.
Rather than being a comprehensive overview of Herakles, this page reflects the issues we thought were interesting and important. Each of us took a different approach to our topics, so there is a lot of variation in the kinds of information presented and how it is presented. We hope it will be useful to students who are doing research on Herakles, or people in general who are looking for more information on this hero.
Most of the sections of this page are individually authored, and signed with the author's initials. (The key to the initials is below). Sections without signature were compiled from student suggestions, notes and materials by Dr. Deagon.
