Web Board Requirements

10% of your grade for this class is class participation, because I feel it is essential for you to get involved in discussing this material and exploring your own ideas about it, which sometimes only happens when you actually talk about it with other people. I will try to set up time for this discussion process to happen in class, but the fact is our class is big and there’s not always time for everyone to be heard (at least by me). The Web Board is a chance for that discussion to take place outside of class, as part of your mythology reading/study.

How to participate on the Web Board:

I have set up a web board discussion area for this class (details on getting to it below). This works like any other bulletin board you might have encountered in the past. You may begin a thread or post a response to other people’s threads – in general, partake in discussion. I will be on the board frequently also so this is a good place to ask questions I might be able to answer (though NOT questions like "What are we supposed to read . . " or "when is our paper due" or whatever – email me or consult the web page for that!) It’s also a good place to bring in your observations from other walks of life. It is your place to make all the connections you want, whether to music, TV and movies, real life experiences, etc. All topics that have any relation to mythology or any connection to a mythological mindframe are welcome!

Mechanics of getting on:

  • Go to the class webpage
  • Click on the webboards link
  • Click on the link to Our Web Board
  • When you are there, enter your logon name (which can be anything you choose), then fill out the information it asks for
  • When you are done, it will send you a password instantly by return email. You must log on within 24 hours or the password will expire. This password is easy to misread so it works best to cut it from your email and paste it in when you log on.
  • Once you have logged on, you can choose "more" from the top menu, then "edit your profile", then give yourself a more manageable password.
  • If you have trouble logging on the normal way, let me know. If I have your email address and other information I can log you on myself.
  • A note about anonymity: You can choose to post messages anonymously, which is fine by me. But I will be able to see who has posted them when I review the posts for allotting class participation credit – I can’t even choose not to see. However, I promise that I will maintain your anonymity to all others.
