Chapter 5

Discussion Questions

The Greeks have a number of different sea gods; I have suggested that it's because the sea has so many different aspects.  So, do all of these gods aadd up to a unified vision of the sea?  Do these gods represent the occcean we are familiar with, or does the ocean look different in the Greek imagination?

We started to explore some of the implication of Greek monsters -- i.e. that they were more female than male and that they often incorporate animal elements.  Think some more about the implications of what monsters show about a society, and continue the comparson of our monsters and theirs.
