Heracles: Readings and Discussion for Sept. 5 Internet
Resources Next time we will meet in the interactive computer classroom in Westside. They tell me we will be able to log on, you can pull up your site and we can all look at it. I don't know the room number, so just go to Westside & look for me . . . 8-0 ;-) Our purpose will be to check out Internet resources we have come up with. This includes
Search
the web for Heracles (Hercules, Herakles) in two phases: (1)
A general search. Try your
luck with Heracles, Herakles and Hercules using any standard Internet
search engine. If there are
limiting words you want to use (Greece, Rome, hero, whatever), use them.
What do you find? Comment
on the sort of sites you come up with, and note any that are particularly
intriguing. Remember that in
addition to searching for the ancient Heracles, you are also searching for
survivals of Heracles/Hercules in the modern world, in modern popular
culture. Hercule tires or the
infamous Hercules mollusk are valid hits; note them and we may use them
somehow on our web page. (2)
A search which begins from the “Internet Resources” section of our
class web page. You already
know what you find from Perseus, so see if you can come up with other
resources for Heracles/Hercules that are useful clearing-houses of
information. (3)
From each category, choose a site (more if you like) to bring
in to class. Make a note of
the web address. Either print
it out or write it accurately so we can look at the site together in
class. Your comments on how
helpful this site is for our purposes will be very welcome. |
