Readings and links for Tuesday,
9/19/00:
Reading: The Madness of Heracles
(textbook). Rather than giving you discussion questions (since y'all
seem to discuss pretty well!) I will just ask you to come up with your
own, focusing on some of the ideas we have been dealing with in class.
Writing:
-
Each person will write a paragraph or a few lines that
sum up something important from your group discussions about Heracles
in Homer or Hesiod.
-
You will also be thinking about a mission statement
for our web page -- that is, a summary of what resources we want to
provide and how we want to provide them (though you don't have to
write anything about this yet).
-
Check Padilla for an essay or book on your topic or
close. If our library doesn't have it, order from Interlibrary
Loan. If we do have it, bring it to class (preferably having
read some or all of it first).
-
If you have ideas for research areas
(whether or not you want to be the one to focus on this area, or if
you have FAQ type questions you'd like to see investigated, write them
down and keep your list for class discussion either Tuesday or
Thursday.
Quiz: No, it doesn't count, but you don't want to
look bad, do you? Be prepared to show your expertise on ancient authors
and the facts of Heracles' labors and early life.
We will meet in Morton 214 (the old room).
