“Calculus
– Early Transcendentals” by Stewart, Brooks/Cole, fifth edition
Syllabus
In this first course of the calculus sequence, we
will examine some of the foundational ideas of the calculus. These basic
ideas will include function, limit, continuity, derivative, and integral.
We will see along the way that the calculus can be effectively applied to
give one insight into how changes in a given quantity are related to
changes in a dependent quantity. Examples of these applications will be
drawn from such diverse fields as physics, astronomy, biology, chemistry,
business, and medicine.
Chapters One through Six will be covered.
Prerequisite: MAT 111 and 112 or MAT 115.
Computer software required: MAPLE, a symbolic computational package.
