Format:
I. Classroom Learning Climate and Setting: Briefly describe the demographics of the class. Focus on gender, race, age and number of students. Describe the learning climate and how this climate affected student learning and behavior. What were the factors influencing this climate?
II. The Lesson and Teacher: What was the objective/learning outcome for the class? Was that objective met? (Did learning take place?) Describe the strategies and methods the teacher used to achieve the learning. Note any differentiated instruction the teacher may have implemented to accommodate individual differences. Describe how the teacher assessed the students' learning. Also include the methods for behavior management used by the teacher and its effectiveness.
III. The Students: Describe the students' reactions to the lesson. Were they actively engaged in the lesson? If so, how? How did the students react to the teacher and towards each other? Did the students adhere to classroom procedures and expectations? If not, what were the consequences?
IV. Transferring Observations into
Practice: Based on your observations, what activities and techniques
would you deem valid to students' learning and use in your classroom? Based
on your observations, does this particular teaching style seem beneficial
to students' learning? Would you consider using this technique in
your classroom? What did you learn about students, teachers, schools
and/or yourself today that will help you as a teacher? What would
you do differently if you assumed full responsibility of this class tomorrow?
