Undergraduate Opportunities

Undergraduate research assistants join the TALE lab each semester. If you are interested in our research and in working with older adults, fill out the Undergraduate Research Assistant Application and email it to Dr. Nicole Alea. Psychology and gerontology students are encouraged to apply. Undergraduate students are involved via:

PSY 491/GRN 491 (1 to 3 credits): Directed Individual Study (DIS) includes involvement in
lab research activities. Students must be a junior or senior, have an overall GPA of at least 2.00,
and devote at least two consecutive semesters to lab activities.

Graduate Opportunities

If you are interested in adult development and aging, or gerontology, and considering graduate school at UNCW, contact Dr. Nicole Alea. Graduate students in the TALE Lab are involved in all aspects of the research, and can earn both a:

Masters' in Psychology: Three programs lead to a MA degree in psychology: a general psychology
concentration designed to prepare students for entry into doctoral programs, a substance abuse
treatment program leading to licensure, and an applied behavior analysis program with a focus on
developmental disabilities. A thesis is required.

Gerontology Certificate: Program leading to a graduate certificate in Gerontology includes 21 to 24
semester hours of course work. Service learning opportunities are also part of the curriculum.
Each student will complete a gerontology practicum.
