| 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 5:4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5:5 "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 5:7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 5:10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 5:11 "Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. | 6:20 Then he looked up at his disciples and said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 6:21 "Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. "Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. 6:22 "Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. 6:23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. 6:24 "But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. 6:25 "Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry. "Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep. 6:26 "Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets. |
| 5:38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye
for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' 5:39 But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; 5:40 and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; 5:41 and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. 5:42 Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you. 7:12 "In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets. 5:43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 5:44 But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 5:45 so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. 5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. |
6:27 "But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 6:28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 6:29 If anyone strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold even your shirt. 6:30 Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. 6:32 "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 6:33 If you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 6:34 If you lend to those from whom you hope to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. 6:35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. 6:36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. |
| 6:9 "Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name. 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven. 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread. 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 6:13 And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. |
11:2 He said to them, "When you pray, say: Father,
hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.
11:3 Give us each day our daily bread. 11:4
And
forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us.
And do not bring us
to the time of trial." |
| 6:25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 6:26 Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 6:27 And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? 6:28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 6:29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. 6:30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you--you of little faith? 6:31 Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear?' 6:32 For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 6:33 But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. | 12:22 He said to his disciples, "Therefore
I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your
body, what you will wear. 12:23 For life is more than food, and the body
more than clothing. 12:24 Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have
neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are
you than the birds! 12:25 And can any of you by
worrying add a single hour to your span of life? 12:26 If then
you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about
the rest? 12:27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they
neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was
not clothed like one of these. 12:28 But if
God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow
is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you--you of little
faith! 12:29 And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what
you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. 12:30 For it is the nations of the world that
strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. 12:31 Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. |
| 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 7:8 For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.7:9 Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? 7:10 Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake? 7:11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him! 7:12 "In everything do to others as you would have them do to you; for this is the law and the prophets. | 11:9 "So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 11:10 For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. 11:11 Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake instead of a fish? 11:12 Or if the child asks for an egg, will give a scorpion? 11:13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit (mss. good gifts) to those who ask him!" 6:31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. |
