David Weber has been working in the field of organizational training and development since the late 1970s. At University of Southern California, he earned the M.S. degree in instructional design, and a Ph.D. in organizational communication at University of Denver.
Career assignments and professional projects have enabled David to live and work around the world. During his career, clients have included Xerox, Disney, Frito-Lay, Hoechst, General Motors, U S West, and many other large and small firms, in both the private and public sectors. He spent a total of five years in expatriate positions as an organizational development professional in Iran, Indonesia, and Japan. David’s specialty is working with executives, managers, and other professionals, in developing their skills as trainers, leaders, business communicators, intercultural professionals, and team contributors.
David has been an award-winning teacher at the university level since the late 1980s. In his courses, he blends theory with practical, field-tested, experience-based solutions concerning communication challenges facing organizations. Currently (since August 1999) a full-time faculty member at University of North Carolina at Wilmington, in the Department of Communication Studies. He teaches courses there in basic and advanced organizational communication, organizational culture, leadership, business and professional speaking, and nonverbal communication.
David also performs as a professional storyteller. He presents story recitals for corporations, and for executives at professional conferences. He also teaches storytelling techniques to teachers, trainers, and other professionals. His performances and workshops have taken place throughout North America and in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. He also has appeared several times on U.S. national network television as a storyteller. David's audiotape, Busman's Holiday: Stories for the Business Community, was produced and released by Aunyx Productions in 1993.
David has published often in the business, professional, and academic media. His most recent book, Business Speeches, co-authored with Takashi Kosaka, was released in March 1998 in Japan by ALC Publishing. In 1996, the National Communication Association (the primary international organization for communication professionals) awarded him the Top Research Paper Award in Organizational Communication.
