Oysters
Oysters are more than mollusks that live in marine or brackish habitats. They are a delicacy amongst lovers, a feast amongst kings and barer of fine jewelry for the wealthy. They have been cultivated for centuries and eaten for their hearty goodness. It is no wonder that they are celebrated amongst oyster lovers time and time and again.
A true oyster, or the oyster that we most commonly eat, is known under the scientific family name of Ostreidae. There are four major species of oysters: Eastern (or Atlantic), Pacific (or Japanese), Olympia, and European flat. An oyster's flavor can be determined by such factors as salinity of the water, diet, mineral content of the water and water temperature.
You can grill them, fry them, steam them or eat them raw. But please remember: it may not be the oyster that is so incredibly good, but rather, the company that you are with.
