At
the moment I am an undergraduate student working in Dr. Varadarajan's lab. I joined
the lab in the Summer of 2006 and currently I am involved in the DIS program,
which upon completion will be followed by an Honors Project. The research I
conduct is a continuation upon Shannon Cook's past research. I would like to
thank her for showing me the ropes, answering my questions, and getting me
going. The research is revolved
around determine and quantifying the damage that is inflicted upon DNA when
exposed to specific DNA modifying compounds. My primary methods for
determining and quantifying such damage are with the use of high performance
liquid chromotography in conjunction with UV-VIS and Electrochemical
detection. I hope to contribute as
much as possible back to Dr. Varadarajan and the other students in the group.
In addition to Dr. Varadarajan and Shannon, I would to thank everyone else in
lab for making my joining process painless.
If you are looking to gain more
insight or hear a more in-depth analysis of my research feel free to ask, as it
can only prepare me better for the times when I will be, so to speak, thrown
under the blade in group meetings.
