Review for Midterm Exam
The midterm exam will cover chapters 1-5 and 9-10 in the text.
In addition, it will cover the MS WORD lab book (pp 1-73)
and the additonal topics of computer networks, the Internet,
and the technologies of the World Wide Web.
Some sample questions from each area are:
- Chapter 1: What is the difference between a mainframe and a
microcomputer?
- Chapter 2: What is the CPU and describe what it does.
- Chapter 3: What is the main advantage of CD-ROM as a
storage medium when compared with magnetic disks? What is the
main disadvantage?
- Chapter 4: What does an operating system do?
- Chapter 5: How does desktop publishing differ from word processing?
- Chapter 9: Why is a modem required to connect your home computer
to the Internet?
- Chapter 10: Why is file compression so important on the Internet?
- MS WORD: Describe how you would delete a paragraph of text in MS
WORD?
- Computer Networks: Name two LAN standards?
- The Internet: Why was the Internet created?
- The World Wide Web: Is HTML just a fancy word processor? Explain.
- HTML tags <ol> and <ul> are different: explain. Write the HTML tag to construct a link that reads "Hit me" and will connect you to the object located at abc.xyz.
