"Welcome to Computer Science 105"

Goals for today:

• Review syllabus, course requirements, goals, grading, attendance...
• Get to know each other.
• Files: What are they? What can you do with them?
• Manipulating files with the operating system and with a software application.
• File structure: binary versus text files.
• Create a folder on your disk labeled CSC 105. Inside this folder create five more folders labeled Word, Flash, Excel, PowerPoint, and HTML.
• Review the Word lab assignment.
  • Read "Common Elements", perform tasks you are unfamiliar with. 
  • Read "Word Lesson 1", perform tasks you are unfamiliar with. 
  • Office Volume 1 Data Files - learnxp_v1_sdf.exe -if your storage media capacity permits, click this link (a self extracting zip file, 1.06 MB) and unzip to your CSC 105 folder.

Assignment: 

• Read Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the textbook.
• If you forgot your password get help in Hoggard Hall room 206 (bring your student ID).
• Visit the class web site, email me. Please put your name (last name, first name please) and CSC 105 in the subject block of all your email to me as this will help me process your questions.
