What should I do first?

1)   Read the document, “Who Should or Should not Take This course”

2)   Read the syllabus carefully.  It contains important information about your textbooks, how this course works and how you will be graded. It is critical to your success that you understand the course set-up, the grading process, and the late policies.

3)   Go to Blackboard: http://ncvista.blackboard.com/.  This is the website you will use to get and submit some of the coursework.  Run the Browser Check and complete any suggested fixes.  Login using your UNCW userid (e-mail address without the @uncw.edu) and your 6-digit SeaNet pin (the default pin is your birthday).   Go to the Discussion area and complete the “Introduce Yourself” submission.  This is not graded, but it will be how I know you are ready to begin the course.  Access may be denied if you try this before the first day of the semester as the course may still be under construction.

4)   Go to SimNet:  http://uncw.simnetonline.com. This is the other website you will use for some of the coursework.  The syllabus and calendar contain details about which website to use for various assignments.  Note: if you bought a used book or a new book from a non-campus store, you will need to purchase a SimNet account separately.  You can buy it online through the link in this bullet, or the bookstore should have some if you ask at the counter.

d.   Try the Practice Test, and the Practice Lesson in SimNet.  This is not for a grade, but it will make sure that SimNet is working on your machine.  It will also give you some practice using SimNet and will familiarize you with the interface before graded assignments are due. The best browser to use for these is Firefox, followed by Internet Explorer. Not all browsers are supported. SimNet is memory intensive.  Please close all other applications before beginning work in SimNet!   It may take several minutes for things to load initially.  Be patient, and don’t click around on other things. Mac users: don’t use Safari, use Firefox instead.
