France Annouces Tighter Immigration Controls

This article concerns the recent influx of imigrants to France. The increase of immigrants has caused unrest in France. Some of this unrest has lead to riots. This article explains Frances new plan to control imigration and limit the number and type of imigrants entering France, hopefully settlingany unrest.
Of course there is unrest and something needs to be done to stop it, but is selective immigration fair? Will this acctually help? Is imigration a bad thing? Our country was built on immigration and we had unrest to. Is this the same thing?

Ants and hospital patients?

This article talks about a serious problem in a hospital in Kolkata, India involving ants attacking a patient. I think it is sad that these patients in pain have to go through more and can't do anything about it. It is a short article and I don't have much to say except that hopefully this problem can be solved soon.

Senate demands accountability on war

This article talks about how the Senate wants reports on the progress of the war in Iraq but has also turned down the Democratic plan to require President Bush and his administration to make a timeline for the U.S. troops to withdrawal. The Senate wants the Bush administration to give a good explaination to not only them, but the American people as well, a successful plan of action to end successfully the war in Iraq. There are a few opinions in the article as well. I just want to know what you truly feel about this topic. Do you really think the war in Iraq is aimless, or is it a successful war for our country?

Smoking Ban

The following two articles relate to the Smoking ban which is presenlty being voted on by west Lafayette officials. If the final vote goes through, smoking shall be banished from resturants and other public places. What are your feeling about the banishment of smoking? Also they are holding a 15 feet radius of non-smoking on all public areas. Are they now segregating the smokers from the non-smokers? Please place your views on the topic.

Breast cancer treatment better but still brutal

there has been a lot done lately (especially around PU - for instance, the, "i like boobs" shirts) to support breast cancer research. this article is from the CNN website. reading this made me in a way just want to go help the effort since it presents the personal story. although it has hit my family, it was a while ago...and hearing this lady's story brings back the reality of everything that goes with breast cancer. Enemy Body Counts Revived

For the first time since the Vietnam War, the US military has decided to release the death toll of enemy forces, mostly in the Iraq War. Interlocking Proposals: In Car Breathalyzers

The following website describes a proposal for breathalyzers to be installed in cars. What this does is when an intoxicated subject blows too high, the car's ignition would lock to prevent a drunk from starting and driving the vehicle. There is some debate over these kinds of devises and the overall expense of installation. It is a good idea to uses these mechanisims to prevent DUI's, but will the public see the worth if it means spending even more money on a vehicle?

This site is about a consperacy theory that on 911 it wasn't a plane that hit the Pentagon, but was actually a missile and our government hid the truth. I think that this theory puts up an interesting argument, but for sure needs more research. After checking out the site and if it were found to be true, I think that it shatters our whole belief that this nation is safe and strong, that we should never live in fear.

This article is very interesting. It desscribes an exhibit that has recently made its way into America that contains dead bodies for show. The bodies are placed in a special way and cut open to expose certain organs. IT mentions a chess player "pretending" to play chess while his brain is exposed. The creater Dr. Von Hagens descibes his work to be educational.

cell phone ban urged for teen drivers

This article discusses the National Transportation Safety Board's concern with the increase of cell phone use while driving, especially among beginning teen drivers. I found it very interesting that researchers found last spring that teens and young adults on the phone while in a driving simulator reacted as slowly as elderly drivers not using a phone. My question is, if more restrictions are made, will people make an effort to stop using their cell phones, and will it really have an effect on the amount of traffic accidents?

In this article it gives the explanation for rising gas prices. The big factor for gas prices rising is due to two main oil lines were shut down due to Hurricane Katrina.
