Research Projects:

Placement and sampling of 16 permanent monitoring plots (10m x 10m each) have been completed as part of savanna understory restoration at Sandy Run Savannas State Natural Area near Maple Hill, NC.

Multi-year project to assess deer impacts on maritime forest vegetation within the Bald Head Woods Coastal Reserve (Bald Head Island, NC) continues in collaboration with Drs. Steven Brewer and Zachary Long
"Golf Course Conservation Easements with Natural Habitats: A Need for Clarity" was published in Natural Areas Journal -- October 2010 Article.
Draft management plan has been submitted to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service concerning populations of golden sedge (Carex lutea), a federally endangered species, within Sandy Run Savannas State Natural Area located near Maple Hill, NC. Article

"The Vascular Flora of Sandy Run Savannas State Natural Area, Onslow and Pender Counties, North Carolina " was published in Castanea -- December 2010. Article

Characterization of habitats used by white-tailed deer on Bald Head Island was completed as part of a UNCW/NCSU collaborative investigation of deer movement and habitat selection. Article

"Prescribed Burning in State Parks and Natural Areas of North Carolina and Nearby Coastal States" was published in Natural Areas Journal -- January 2009. Article

"Management of Feral Horses at the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve" was published in Natural Areas Journal -- April 2008. Article
