Visitor Evaluation Assignment: Report of Front-End Evaluation
HST 573: Education and Interpretation at Museums and Historic Sites
The assignment: Prepare a report of front-end evaluation for an upcoming exhibition on consumerism the 1980s United States. In class on September 16, the survey form will be group-authored, tested with visitors and revised in class. Students will conduct 25 surveys each. These surveys will be compiled and made available to all students.
The report must include:
o A list of evaluation objectives (authored by the class as a whole)
o A description of the sampling method (sampling strategy set by class)
o Discussion of survey results
o Recommendations for acquisitions, thematic development, and exhibit design
o An annotated bibliography of scholarly sources (at least 3 books and 4 articles) recommended for thematic development of the exhibition
Report requirements:
—10-12 pages (excluding bibliography), typed, double-spaced, with standard fonts and margins
This paper is worth 25 points of your final grade and will be graded on:
—Analysis of data (8)
—Organization and clarity (4)
—Grammar, usage, and spelling (4)
—Validity of recommendations (acquisitions, development, design, and secondary sources) (9)
This paper is due in class on October 13. Late papers will be penalized five points per day.
