CREATING A COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS

·       Schools cannot become exciting places for students until they first become exciting places for teachers.

·       Find ways to break down the barriers between teaching and learning

·       Traditional staff development is unable to do more than tinker at the margins of teaching.

·       Schools need to be designed in a way that affords opportunities to teachers to learn from one another.

·       High school teachers identify with their discipline – departmentally focused staff development can be more effective.

·       However, effective schools also need whole-school, cross-disciplinary engagement.
