General Feedback on Unit Plans:

·       State clear Objectives – TLWB to describe…, compare and contrast etc

·       Variety in Guided practice – goal to use a different strategy for 10 days in a row

·       Who likes writing essays?!!! Be creative in your writing assignments – diary, letter to the editor, editorial, propaganda, letter back home, children’s book

·       Put yourself in his/her shoes

·       Include visuals – help bring History/Civics to life. One picture is worth a 1000 words.

·       Make connections – what interest does this lesson have to a high school student? Relate to students’ lives, to current events, to family etc.

·       Get students involved – Do less telling and more asking eg rather than give them a definition of citizen, ask them to write down.

What is a citizen? Why is it important?

Finally, would the lesson you have planned engaged you/excited your interest in the topic as a high school student?
