practice – goal to use a different strategy for 10 days in a row

Who likes writing
essays?!!! Be creative in your writing assignments – diary, letter to the
editor, editorial, propaganda, letter back home, children’s book

Put yourself in
his/her shoes

Include visuals –
help bring History/Civics to life. One picture is worth a 1000 words.

Make connections –
what interest does this lesson have to a high school student? Relate to
students’ lives, to current events, to family etc.

Get students
involved – Do less telling and more asking eg rather than
give them a definition of citizen, ask them to write down.
What
is a citizen? Why is it important?
Finally, would the lesson you
have planned engaged you/excited your interest in the topic as a high school
student?
